Fall Updates
Greeting Everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of summer and all was able to enjoy well deserved time with friends and family.
There are many updates within our chapter and wanted to make sure our members had access to all the information.
Product Fair this year will be September 26th. Please note this is change of date from our usual meeting date of the third Thursday of the month. LaDonna will be sending out flyers soon, please make sure you RSVP. This year’s product fair will include the following.

Poster presentations
- Do you have a poster presentation or research that you have participated in this year? Would you like to share it with our members? Please let me or any of our board members know by September 16 and we will have a place for you to share your work. This is also open to any of our nursing students that would like to share their work.

Alice Jordan Award
- The Alice Jordan Mentorship Award was established in 2010 by the West Central Ohio Oncology Nursing Society (WCO-ONS) in memory of our colleague, Alice Jordan. The recipient of this award will receive a $250 scholarship to apply toward an activity that supports the oncology nurse’s practice as a mentor/educator. The application process can be found on our chapter website.

President Elect Elections
- Want an exciting opportunity to serve on your board. Interested in becoming the president elect, a one-year commitment followed by 2 years as president. These roles take approximately 48 hours of program and board meeting participation per year plus several hours of preparation and planning. If interested, please send me your name and a short biography (6-7 sentences). njhamptonj@premierhealth.com
President Elect Responsibilities
- Learn the role of the President
- Assume the role of the President in the following situations:
- Absence of the President,
- Inability of the President to act,
- Resignation of the President, and/or
- Expiration of the President’s term
- Consult with the President throughout term of office to provide for continuity and smooth transition of chapter leadership
- Maintain chapter records associated with the office of President-elect according to procedures established by the Board or national ONS
- Perform other responsibilities designated by the Board or national ONS
President Responsibilities
- Direct the activities of the chapter subject to control of the Board of Directors
- If not elected by the membership, appoint required committee chairs, with board approval
- Coordinate the development of chapter goals, strategic plan, objectives, and budget with the board and committee chairs
- Monitor the implementation of the chapter goals, strategic plan, objectives, and budget
- Advise the general membership and the board of progress toward the chapter goals, strategic plan and objectives, healthcare issues and trends, and information from the national Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)
- Schedule formulate the agenda for each meeting
- Coordinate the completion, review, and submission of the Annual Report according to procedures established by the national ONS
- Mentor and prepare President-elect
- Assure that the records of the chapter are maintained according to procedures established by the national ONS
- Serve as a liaison between the general chapter membership, board, and national ONS
11- Represent the chapter at meetings of the national ONS and other healthcare groups as approved by the national ONS
12- Perform other responsibilities designated by the board or national ONS
13- Outreach Ohio liaison – ensure member attends meeting
14- Maintain official chapter records according to procedures established by the national ONS. Including but are not limited to the following
- Chapter charter
- Chapter standing rules
- Annual reports
15- Notify all members of Board of meeting dates, times, and locations

Collection of Hats and Mittens
- It is that time of year again. Please remember to bring your hat and mittens to donate. Collections of items will be taken for September and October.

- Please remember to bring a friend to the product fair.

We have several scholarships still available. Please see the ONS WCO chapter website for details.
Love Your Chapter
We had a great time at the Dragon’s game this year and we are planning on doing it all over again. Please plan to join us in May 2020.
